Ferry is private by default. It does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information.
Ferry moves photos and videos directly between your iPhone and another phone (Android or iPhone) over your own local Wi-Fi network. One device runs a small local server; the other connects to it after scanning a QR code or entering an address and PIN. Files transfer directly between your two devices.
None. Ferry has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no tracking, and no telemetry. We do not operate any server that your data passes through. Nothing is sent to us or to any cloud service.
Photos and videos you receive are saved only on your device, in your Photos library (or gallery). Media you send is read only to transfer it to the device you pick. Ferry does not copy, upload, or keep your files anywhere else.
So your transferred photos keep their information, Ferry passes along the original GPS location and capture date that are already in the file, directly to your other device. This metadata travels only between your two phones over local Wi-Fi. It is never sent to us.
Transfers use a direct connection between your devices over your local Wi-Fi. No transfer data leaves your local network. The local network permission is used only to let the two devices discover and connect to each other.
Each session is protected by a one-time PIN. Only a device that scanned the QR code or entered the PIN can connect. The PIN is generated fresh each session and is never sent to us.
Ferry includes a number of free transfers before Ferry Pro is required. To keep that count tied to your Apple ID across reinstalls, Ferry stores a single number in Apple's iCloud key-value storage. This uses your own iCloud account through Apple; we never see it, and no photos or personal data are stored there.
If you buy Ferry Pro, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment details.
Ferry is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above.
Questions and data requests: use the Ferry contact form. Messages reach us directly; we usually reply within a day or two.
